20.08.2010 Okatana and Okalongo SS play ball
IN the final weekend of the 2010 FNB Soccer Classic Clashes, two big games are being hosted in the north tomorrow. Okatana Combined School will host Okalongo Secondary School at their soccer field.
The event kicks off at 09:00 with a friendly match between the u/15 teams of Okatana C.S. and Foxy Academy, followed by a friendly netball match between the Okatana C.S. and Ondjodjo Secondary School at 09:45. At 10:30 the official opening starts with Okatana’s principle, Niipare Mauritius, officiating.
The main soccer match starts at 11:00 followed by the prizegiving at 13:00. The day’s events conclude with a match between Okatana C.S. and Ondjodjo C.S. at 13:30. Okatana’s coach, Paulinus Kakelo, is confident that although he only took over this year, they are well prepared and he has confidence in his strikers, Tuyoleni Shilombweleni and Matrisius Haluteni.
Other players to look out for are the defenders, Efraim Hashiyana and Konstancinus Mbeno as well as the midfielders Konis Panga and Israel Haileka. Team captain Zico Shipuata is one to look out for too.
“We were last year’s runners up in the Metropolitan Cup. This was the highest honour we received last year. I am confident my players are ready for this game,” added Kakelo.
Okalongo’s coach, Lazarus Mungolo, is equally confident.
“I feel proud of my team and I’m ready for this weekend’s game. We are going to win the trophy again!”
He has great praise for his captain and midfield general, Elia Hangula, as well as his striker, Daniel ‘Small Boy’ Erastus.
Okalongo won last year’s FNB Classic Clash and are hoping to win again this year. Both teams are very confident and are sure these types of fixtures will upgrade soccer as a sport in the north. The second FNB Classic Clash will be between Ongha and Nehale senior secondary schools which will take place at the Ongha sports field.
The official opening will take place this evening at six. The programme includes the introduction of the sponsors FNB, school officials and players presentations by team captains, concluded by the Miss FNB Classic Clashes pageant at 20:00.
Tomorrow’s events begin with a friendly netball game between Ongha SSS teachers and Ohangwena police officers at 09:00 followed by two friendly soccer games between Ongha SSS teachers and Nehale SSS teachers; and Ongha SSS teachers and Ondobe teachers at 10:00 and 11:00 respectively.
During the intermission at 12:00 there will be games and competitions building up to the main match. The main match kicks off at 15:00 between Ongha SSS and Nehale SSS first teams and events conclude with a prizegiving at 17:00. The two schools met twice last year and Ongha defeated Nehale both times. Coach Jona Heita of Nehale said his team is prepared for the game.
Players to look out for are the captain, Lukas Kemanye, who is a defender; Augustus Kadila, attacking midfielder; Nicodemus Kamati, midfielder; Thobias Nakale, striker. Domingu Ruwa, Ongha’s coach, is proud of his whole team and said that his whole team is ready.
