Windhoek Go-Karting Entertainment at the SKW Sports Club was the venue for the first ever Rotary President’s Cup Challenge, which saw Windhoek Rotary Club and Auas Rotary Club (photo) compete for fame and fortune, all for a good cause. More than N$3 000 was raised for Rotary International’s Polio Plus campaign, thanks to the generosity of Rik-Jan Kraak and Mariette Kraak who offered the go-karting and catering at a huge discount so the profits would go to charity. Family members and friends joined in as drivers from ages between 12 to 72 years put pedal to the metal and streaked across the 400 metre track. The final race was a face-off between the two presidents, Mike Spraggon of Auas Rotary Club and Dirk Schuler of Windhoek Club. Dirk left Mike behind and walked away with a big bottle of sparkling wine, which he promised to auction off at the next fund-raising event, all in keeping with the Rotary motto “Service above self”.
