Gaby Ahrens is the Windhoek Lager Ambassador for January

NAMIBIAN clay pigeon shooter Gaby Ahrens (photo) has been chosen as the January 2012 winner of the NBL Ambassador initiative.

Gaby has won several Southern African national championships over the last years, including the South African and Angolan championships. Her biggest achievement to date was winning the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2010 in New Delhi India.

She has also been awarded Namibian Sports Woman of the Year 2010 and is the current African champion for 2011.

Gaby also achieved the Quota Place for the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games and will represent her country as an Olympian for the second time this year.

Gaby furthermore assisted in raising more than N$1 million towards building the Olympic shooting range in Windhoek (one of only five in Africa) and with her dedication, passion and achievements has taken the shooting sport in Namibia to new heights.

About the recognition she says: “My achievements have given me 100% personal satisfaction. The sweat and tears have paid off. I have worked hard and have received recognition for this.”

Gaby added that being an ambassador for her country makes her proud and gives her a feeling of belonging as she is able to make a difference somewhere, no matter how big or small.

“Sport is a great equalizer and brings together a nation. No matter what culture, race or income level you are, sport brings out the patriots in people. Namibians can be proud of their own people. We do have the potential and talents to be recognized and respected on the international sports scene.”

Gaby’s message to fellow Namibians: “You might not get what you wish for, but you will get what you work for. Luck is not random; it is attached to those who work hard.”

Gaby will join the other Windhoek Lager Ambassadors in competing for the overall Windhoek Lager Ambassador 2011 award in March 2012.

Elize van Kradenburg, Brand Manager at NBL advised that two more spots are open for the February and March winners of the Windhoek Lager Ambassador initiative. In March the runners-up and winner will once again be announced at a glittering gala event.
