Excellent results by local swimmers

NAMIBIAN swimmers achieved excellent results at the national long course championships held at the municipal swimming pool in Olympia, Windhoek last weekend.

A total of 159 swimmers participated in this event. Two individual Namibian records and three Namibian relay records were established, while a good number of swimmers set new personal best times.
Christine Briedenhann, age 15, from Namib Swimming Academy (NSA) was the winner of the Open Victrix Ludorum with a total of 3 448 FINA points. Kari van der Vaart was second with 3 311 FINA points and Godiva Beukes was third with 3 060. Both Kari and Godiva are from Dolphins Swimming Club.

In the boys competition, Christiaan Lamprecht from NSA was the winner of the Open Victor Ludorum with his total of 3 129 FINA points. Macquelin Winkler (NSA) was second with 2 976, while Florian Hentzen (Dolphins Swimming Club) was third with 2 926 FINA points.

Kiara Schatz, age 12, from NSA was the winner of the Junior Victrix Ludorum with 130 points. Zune Weber (10) was second with 122 after she broke the 50m backstroke record and Kiah Borg (13) was third with 113 points, after she broke the 50m breaststroke record. Both Zune and Kia are from Namib Swimming Academy.

Dewald Nell (NSA) was the winner of the Junior Victor Ludorum with 116 points. Theo Visser was second with 98 and his NSA clubmate Lushano Lamprecht was third with 97.

A total of five clubs took part in this year’s championships and Dolphins came out on top with a total of 2 617 points. Namib Swimming Academy was second with 2 038 points, Mpumalanga came third with 597, Oranjemund Sand Sharks was fourth with 203 and Swakopmund Swimming Club fifth with 107.

The Namibian Swimming Union congratulates all the swimmers who kept on producing excellent swimming over the four days. “We also want to thank the officials for their contribution towards the success of this gala, as well as Alexander Forbes for the generous sponsorship which made this event highly successful,” explained the CEO, Letsie Nell.
