Nampost Swakopmund

First of all I want to thank you for allowing me space in your newspaper.
I just want to share the experience I had with Nampost Swakopmund, with the rest of my fellow Namibians. In April 2010 I applied at Nampost Swakopmund for a private postal box. The application was successful and I paid the full application fee. The box number 2488 was then granted to me. I have changed all my correspondence to this address as I have moved from Walvis Bay .

On August 10th 2010 I went to check for mail after hours. I could not unlock my box even though I had the right key for it. Upon calling Nampost the next day and explaining what has happened the person promised to look into the matter and come back to me. I requested the person to open a very important letter for me and read the content thereof to me, which he did. He also told me that my duplicate keys were in the box. I told him that it could not be because I am in possession of both my keys. He told me it calls for an investigation and he will come back to me.

Having received no feed back at all I had to call again and find out what was happening. The lady was very helpful and listened to my ordeal and promised to look into the matter and let me know. The next day 12th of August a certain Mrs. Ellis called me and explained the following to me. She informed me that my box has accidentally been rented out to a business. She then apologised and offered to give me another box, which I refused. The next day when I called Mrs. Ellis she informed me that the matter has been resolved. The lock has been changed and that I must collect my keys and mail over the counter. She informed me that I can keep my box, which I was very grateful for.

How on earth can a person give an occupied postal box with a rightful owner to another? My box was not even vacant at all! Today 17th of August 2010 the Postmaster himself called me to tell me that they have reached a decision on the matter. I told him that the matter has been resolved on Friday. Upon which he replied no it is not the case and that is why he is calling me now. He told me due to the financial impact it would have for the business who occupies my box, they have decided that the business may keep my Postal box. As the saying goes:Money makes the world go round.

To Nampost I am just a nobody as they were more concerned about the business interest than mine. The injustice and corruption is all over and found in every aspect of our society. God forbid! Thank you Nampost for your poor service rendered to me. I can just but wonder where you are heading keeping up with practices such as these?

I would like to suggest that you give adequate training to your personnel and proper induction is the solution to stop the reoccurrence thereof.

Arme Jan Raap en sy maat It is all about money and money talks.
This is my experience by this incident. In Afrikaans there is a saying which goes: GELD WAT STOM IS MAAK REG WAT KROM IS. I fully agree as I have fell victim to such practice.
