25.07.2008 Violence on the soccer field
A Swapo MP came up with a very interesting analogy of the Zimbabwean situation. She compared the two presidential candidates with two soccer teams that were supposed to play and one failed to turn up. The team that turned up is awarded the three points by default.
Another Swapo MP tried to improve on that analogy by comparing the Zimbabwean situation saying that it was like a situation where the team that was leading in the first half ended up losing in the second. Both analogies are interesting, the only problem being that crucial facts were not accounted for.
The only analogy that would make sense is the following: The situation in Zimbabwe is like a derby between R.M. Football Club and M.T. Football Club. The M.T. FC was leading in the first half, but during the 15 minute pause something dramatic happened: the team captain was arrested, the goalkeeper and two strikers were brutally murdered, four midfielders arrested and three defenders forced into hiding.
The coach was left with no other option but to withdraw his team from the match. The R.M. Football Club team triumphantly entered the field and started knocking the ball around and finally the biased referee declared R.M. FC the winners, disregarding protests from his linesmen.
