WINDHOEK – A high-level workshop for the ruling Swapo Party’s regional leadership in preparation for this year’s Presidential and National Assembly elections began here on Wednesday.
Namibia goes to the polls for the fifth time on 27 and 28 November this year to elect new members of the National Assembly as well as the President to lead the country for the next five years.
The two-day high-level preparatory workshop near Brakwater brought together all Swapo Party’s regional coordinators, regional information officers as well as some national leaders assigned to the country’s 13 regions to strategize and map out ways for the party’s elections’ campaign drives.
Officially opening the workshop, Swapo Party Secretary for Information and Mobilisation Jerry Ekandjo, called upon the regional leaders to make sure that the ruling party emerges victorious in the November general elections.
He also urged the party’s regional leadership to remain united for a common purpose, and to make sure that the Swapo Party rules the country and leads the Namibian nation for the next five years.
“You regional leaders are the foot soldiers of our party. As foot soldiers of the party, you must make sure that people all over the country do vote properly.
“This is the time when Namibia is at a cross-roads when we are going to prove to the rest of the world that Namibians would like to be the masters of their own destiny,” said Ekandjo to loud applause from participants.
The politician told fellow party members that they should embark upon a strategic elections’ campaign drive, covering all villages in their respective regions and making sure that the ruling party obtains all the 72 seats in the National Assembly.
“This workshop will equip you with the necessary knowledge and information that when you go back to your respective regions, you make sure that people vote properly,” he noted, while urging the regional leaders to remain united and making sure that the information given to them by the party reaches all the people at grassroots level.
Speaking at the same workshop, Swapo Regional Coordinator for the Khomas Region, Michael Mwinga, also urged fellow regional leaders to make sure that the ruling party emerges victorious in the November general elections.
