Ruling party translates constitution

WINDHOEK – The ruling Swapo Party has successfully translated its constitution into several local languages as part of its strategic campaign drive for the November Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The party's constitution has been successfully translated into Afrikaans, Otjiherero, Setswana, Silozi, Oshindonga and Oshikwanyama.

Translations of the party's constitution into the Rukwangari and Damara/Nama languages will be finalised in the next two weeks. Meanwhile, the draft translations of the constitution into different local languages will only become official translated documents upon approval by the Swapo Party's Central Committee members in the next few weeks.

The Swapo Party’s Secretary for Information and Mobilisation, Jerry Ekandjo said at the official opening of a two-day workshop for the party's regional leadership on Wednesday that the translated documents would be distributed to all the party's regional leaders, members, supporters and the general masses who cannot read and understand the official English language in order for them to easily comprehend the Swapo Party's political programmes.
