RDP condemns unruly mob

THE Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) wishes to condemn the barbaric besieging of its 14 mobilization house to house cadres at Outapi on the 27th October 2009 between 12.30 and 14.30.

RDP mobilization cadres were on their way to buy their lunch after a successful but heavy recruitment drive in and around the Outapi area, when suddenly they were surrounded by a Swapo mob of around 200 people.

The mob besieged RDP cadres for about two hours. RDP finds it inconceivable and indeed incomprehensible for Swapo to hinder peaceful political activities as per article 17 sub-article (1) of the Namibian Constitution.

More so when the country is in the middle of its election campaign scheduled for the 27 and 28 November 2009. RDP wishes to repeat its call that the attitude of creating “no go areas” in Namibia is illegal and unacceptable and must be rejected and condemned with the contempt it deserves.

We also wish to call upon the Swapo leadership to contain their supporters whenever they provoke the RDP, because this negative behaviour will one day lead to violence whose consequences might be hard to contemplate. It is time for the election campaign and political parties are free to campaign anywhere in Namibia and RDP is no exception.

This point must be clear to everyone. RDP would equally like to remind the Namibian Police that their task is to deal with those who violate the counlaw. In this case they were supposed to arrest the culprits and not ask our people to leave.

Outapi and any other place in the Omusati region shall remain part and parcel of the mobilization ground by the RDP cadres. RDP is fully aware that many in the Omusati region like the rest of the country are yearning for change. We are already to deliver that change to them.

Finally we want to thank RDP cadres who were barbarically besieged by the Swapo mob for their professional behaviour and level-headedness which prevented bloodshed.

We also want to inform all RDP members and supporters that RDP will fully participate in the upcoming elections and those spreading rumours that RDP will not participate in the upcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections are lying and must not be listened to.

We shall continue to mobilize the masses of this country to rally behind the RDP and deliver them from poverty, hunger, unemployment, homelessness, loss of hope, corruption and the daily stealing of the country’s monetary resources.
