Police Nab Swapo Party Activist

A Swapo Party activist who, some two weeks ago, seized then burned a flag belonging to two electoral campaigners from the Congress of Democrats (CoD) has been nabbed by the Oshakati police. Human rights sources in the Oshana region reported that NamPol members arrested a certain Kamli, owner of Eenkoshi shebeen at Oshakati's Uupindi township, after he allegedly grabbed the flag from the two CoD activists and set it alight "with impunity".

The incident occurred earlier this week at the suspect's home in the said township.

On or around October 7 2009, CoD National Executive Committee (NEC) member and Oshakati town councillor, Alderman Vaino Amuthenu, on behalf of his party, laid a criminal charge against Kamli (CR 158/10/09) for malicious destruction of property.

Paragraph 8 of the Code of Conduct for Political Parties, read in conjunction with section 43(2) of the Electoral Act 1992 (Act of 24 of 1992), as amended, outlaw the disfigurement and or destruction of campaign materials of other parties.
