Pohamba at odds with Okongo school principal

OMUNTELE – President Hifikepunye Pohamba (photo) has ex- pressed disappointment that the principal of the Oshela Senior Secondary School (SSS) at Okongo in the Ohangwena region prevented the school’s children from attending a Swapo Party rally.

Pohamba expressed his disappointment whilst addressing a joint inauguration of constituency offices for Tsumeb, Omuntele and Omuthiya in the Oshikoto region at Omuntele this week.

The President said he was addressing a Swapo political rally at the party’s office at the Okongo settlement in the east of the Ohangwena region last Saturday.

While addressing the meeting, he learned that the principal of Oshela SSS, a certain Oom Na- kale, had locked the children inside the school premises, preventing them from attending the political meeting that took place just a few metres from the Oshela SSS.

The President sees it as im- proper that the schoolchildren were prevented from attending the rally where he spoke of Swapo’s developmental programmes, adding that the children are the so-called “bornfrees” and are expected to vote for the first time this year.

According to Pohamba, the children demanded the school’s leadership to let them attend the Swapo meeting, adding that the principal was not at the school at that particular time. The Head of State indicated that he had, in the meantime, given an order for the issue to be looked into.

A source close to Swapo told Nampa on Tuesday that the President used his powers to have the children released and they later attended the Swapo rally.

The principal was not immediately available for comment.
