9.10.2009 Okatayali renames hall after Paulus Kapia
OSHAKATI – The community of the Okatayali constituency in the Oshana region on Saturday renamed their community hall after their former councillor Paulus Ilonga Kapia.
Councillor of the constituency, Joseph Mupetami, told Nampa on Tuesday that this was to honour him for being the constituency's founding councillor.
Mupetami said Kapia, who is number 25 on the list of the ruling Swapo Party's 72 National Assembly candidates, was also at Oka- tayali to witness the renaming of the hall on Saturday.
“The hall was known as Okatayali Community Hall, but the community has decided that it should be called Paulus Ilonga Kapia Community Hall as from Saturday,” he explained.
According to him, Kapia donated 28 chairs to be used in the hall before the completion of its construction work some four years ago. The hall will be used for community activities such as social gatherings and constituency development programmes.
Four other small community halls have also been put up around the Okatayali constituency to cater for community mini-meetings and senior citizens' social grant payouts.
The Paulus Ilonga Kapia Community Hall and the four smallsized assembly places were constructed with resources and funds contributed by individual members of the community or solicited from good Samaritans.
“Members of the Okatayali community are serious about rural development programmes, and recently they ordered three canoes from the Kavango region to be used by local farmers in crossing oshanas (plains) during the flood season,” Mupetami boasted.
