NDP on election rigging in Africa

THE National Democratic Party (NDP) with a powerful meaningful slogan ‘(Seli Nako) The Hour has Come (It’s time)’ revealed information and strategies used by African electoral commissions to rig elections for ruling party governments to favour some- one in order to remain in power.

In most African countries electoral commissions are not independent, as a result elec- tions conducted under the supervision of an unindependent board becomes a problem or crisis. This crisis is promoted by unindependent electoral commissions which runs the elections as they are under the partial control of the ruling government.

NDP's solutions for electoral commissions to become fully independent:

• The United Nations (UN) must supervise elections in Africa; or

• A New Africa, the United States of Africa, must come up with the formation of an in- dependent African electoral commission which will be accepted and agreed on by all political parties in Africa to run and supervise the elections for Africa as whole; or

• Each of the states have their own independent electoral commission which has been accepted, approved and agreed on by all political parties in each country which can run and supervise the election to avoid rigging. Otherwise, in continuing to allow government parties to control the electoral commissions, we continue to promote rigging, which will result as crises in the country or in Africa as whole. NDP president Martin Luka- to Lukato (photo) describes some of the previous election events as follows. The following are the champions of Africa who won the elections but were cheated and robbed:

• In 1979 (sic) in Namibia’s first elections under the su- pervision of the UN, the leader of United Democratic Party (UDP) Caprivi exiled leader Meshack Muyongo, led DTA of Namibia to contest against Sam Nujoma of SWAPO party. The winner was Meshack Mu- yongo of the DTA but he was hated by both SWAPO party and the United Nations. SWAPO party allowed Angolans to enter Namibia to vote for SWAPO party and for Sam Nujoma. But all regions were won by Meshack Muyongo and the DTA, except Ovambolan the four northern regions).

• In 1992 in Angola: The late Unita leader Jonas Savimbi contested Eduardo Alberto Dos Santos of MPLA. The winner was the late Dr. Jonas Savimbi of UNITA but he was cheated and robbed.

• In 2007 in former Zaire (DRC): The exiled leader and former rebel leader Jonny Piere Bemba contested Joseph Kabila. The winner was Jonny Piere Bemba but he was chea- ted and robbed.

• In 2008 in Zimbabwe: The opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai contested Robert Mugabe of ZANU PF. The win- ner was Morgan Tsvan- girai but he was cheated and robbed.

• In Kenya: The opposition leader, currently the Prime Minister Raila Odinga, contested the former ruling party president. The winner was Raila Odinga but he was cheated and robbed.

• In Zambia 2008: The opposition leader Michael Sata contested Ruphia Banda of ruling MMD party. The winner was Michael Sata but he was cheated and robbed. The way forward for Africa The NDP’s advice to all African states: It is time for us as African citizens to come together to talk about African developments, how we can form a United Africa, how we can contribute to the political and economic development of our continent.

• Stop Abusing Office: Let us stop abusing office power to oppress others and to rig elections. It’s a sin to rig elections and it’s a sin to oppress others. God will judge us according to what we are doing.

• NDP Calling: NDP is appealing and calling to all African states and to all political parties to come around the table for peaceful political dialogue in order to resolve all outstanding issues. As we are behind in develop ment, the platform will promote peace, de- mocracy, multiparty, freedom, human rights, independent judicial, in- dependent media, to mention only a few.
