25.09.2009 How seafaring personnel will vote in elections
WINDHOEK – A one day meeting organised by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources in conjunction with the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), was slated for yesterday in Swakopmund to discuss voting regulations pertaining to seafaring personnel.
A media statement made available to Nampa on Wednesday by the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Fisheries Ministry, Peter Amutenya, indicated that Namibian law stipulates that seafaring personnel should vote days before the actual voting date.
“As you may be aware, the law now stipulates that seafaring personnel should vote days before the voting date. The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, in conjunction with the ECN, will hold a meeting in Swakopmund to explain the law regarding elections, with specific emphasis on the accommodation of seafaring personnel,” he said.
Fisheries Minister Dr Abraham Iyambo and ECN Director Moses Ndjarakana will jointly officiate at the event.
At an earlier announcement of the elections’ dates, the ECN noted that seafaring personnel will cast their votes on 13 November.
Namibians are going to the polls on 27 to 28 November 2009 to vote in the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
