RUNDU, The All Peoples’ Party (APP) intends to establish one fish farm in every village in the Kavango Region, if elected to lead the country for the next five years.
To this end, APP president Ignatius Shixuameni challenged inhabitants of the Kavango Region to decide during the 2009 November Presidential and National Assembly (NA) elections whether they want to continue with the status quo of living in poverty and joblessness.
Addressing APP members and supporters at the Bunya village, some 50km west of Rundu on Sunday, Shixuameni said the Kavango Region’s votes produce equal to nine seats in the National Assembly, and urged the electorate to vote for the APP that will represent their plight in the National Assembly.
According to him, the APP is the only party that represents real fundamental change in the country amongst all 13 political parties contesting this year’s general elections.
Shixuameni explained that poverty and unemployment are the biggest problems facing the country, and given the country’s resources and its population of about two million people, the APP is able to make poverty history within just five years.
The APP president said his party is committed to putting aside N$3 billion annually to eradicate poverty in the country.
He said there are currently 350 000 poor households in the country, and the APP promised to provide N$2 500 to every poor household monthly as part of efforts to tackle poverty.
Shixuameni further indicated that an APP-led government will provide free education to all, from kindergarten up to tertiary level, saying Botswana, Tanzania, Kenya and Germany are amongst the countries doing the same.
Meanwhile, Shixuameni discounted rumours that the APP is a family project and a party for inhabitants of the Kavango Region only, saying the party has members from different tribes.
The party’s national chairman Herbert Shihwameni, Secretary-General Marcellus Mudumbi and other members of the party’s central co-ordinating committee attended the APP meeting.
