WINDHOEK COUNTRY CLUB
This weekend sees the playing of the Sanlam Cancer Challenge qualifying tournament for golf members of the Windhoek Country Club.
Cancer is a disease that affects many Namibians with more than 3 000 new diagnoses every year. The Sanlam Cancer Challenge is a vehicle for golfers to join the fight against cancer by playing their favourite sport.
On top of that, six Namibian golfers (three men and three women each in the A, B and C divisions) will get the opportunity to travel to Sun City later this year to compete in the Finals tournament. Henties Bay’s Wilna Bredenhann was the 2015 Ladies A division winner of the Finals.
Qualifying tournaments are held at clubs all around the country with the generous sponsorship of Sanlam. The finalists of each club then travel to Windhoek on 20 August to decide the six players who will represent Namibia in the finals in South Africa.
The club wishes to thank Sanlam for their support and call on all its members to support the day and the additional fundraising efforts that will take place.

WALVIS BAY
The past weekend saw the Walvis Bay Golf Club host the PISCS monthly medal and Kevin Wentzel won the best gross on a flat round of 72.
Frans Grobler won the best net score on the day with a very good 65. The winner of the A division was Morné Roux on 72; the B division was won by Jonas Niilenge and the C division was won by Estelle Bothma, winning a count-out against Pieter Heunis and Chris Bothma.
Frans was also in luck winning the jackpot of N$5 00, while two-clubs were recorded by Frans, Jonas, Emile Vilbert and Kevin (twice). Siggi Steyn was the lucky winner of the ‘pot’.
This weekend is the WBM popular FLAGS day with Wouter on duty. This is always an exciting, different type of event and always draws a big field.
• The Standard Bank Vehicle Asset Finance Matchplay League is well underway with games being played regularly. Remember you can challenge more than one player in your 4 ball at a time and you only need to play three games in a month to qualify for the monthly draw of N$1 000, but don’t forget you can only play a maximum of four games per month and only once against the same player in the month.
In section 1, Pieter Fox leads on 15 points with Anton van Rensburg and Danie van Antwerpen tied on 13 points. In the other section Johnny G is way ahead on 25 points, with Wouter van Wijk on 15 points while third place is taken by Johan Swanepoel one point adrift.
Members are requested to diarize the club AGM on 24 August. Attendance is paramount and this is the chance for members to stand up and say what they feel needs to be done, improved, and or corrected.

LADIES PAIRS
The 2016 Namibia Beauty & Optiphi Ladies Pairs Championship was held at the Windhoek Country Club last Saturday.
Daphne Howard and Helen Bottger certainly did not need to say “sorry partner” at this year’s event, taking the first place with 72 points.
Lydia Lumley and Amanda van Wyk came in second with 71 points. A count-out ensued with the next three teams coming in with 70 points each.
Wiltrud Rügheimer and Celonika Robinson won the third place count-out with Anecia La Grange and Jane Liebenberg placed fourth and Nola Serfontein and Biffy Moir fifth.
With more than N$36 000 worth of prizes and hampers, including products and vouchers, Namibia Beauty & Optiphi second year again spoiled the ladies players.
Brenda Lens and Ruanda de Beer matched everything down to the shoe laces to take the crown as the best dressed team, while Amanda van Dyk and Celonika Robinson showed some great iron play, taking the closest to the pin on hole number 9 and 17.
