Namib Bou to build 1000 houses in Ondangwa

THE Ondangwa town council and Namib Bou (Pty) Ltd on Friday signed a co-operation agreement pertaining to the construction of more than 1 000 affordable houses at the town in the near future.

Ondangwa town mayor Naftal Andimba and Namib Bou’s Managing Director Johan Nienaber exchanged documents after they signed the agreement on an occasion witnessed by some members of the Ondangwa town council.

Andimba described the agreement as a real Namibian public-private smart partnership, and an effort to improve and create an enabling environment and facilitate equitable development for the residents of this town.

“This development of over 1 000 houses in Ondangwa Extension 10 by Namib Bou will assist in our efforts to address the ever-increasing housing demands in Ondangwa,” the mayor noted.

He said the development of these houses will also create job opportunities for the residents during the construction phase, while on the other hand it creates another opportunity for income-generation for the council through rates, taxes and service payments.

Once it is embarked upon, the project will change the face and landscape of Ondangwa. He furthermore believes that through this project, a variety of luxury, middle-income and low-income houses will be constructed at Ondangwa.

Said Andimba: “Ondangwa will never be the same again”, adding that the Ondangwa town council will go an extra mile to work with all prospective investors here so as to ensure the upliftment of the living standards of town residents.

Speaking at the same occasion, Nienaber described the co-operation as a major step towards addressing the needs for affordable housing in Namibia, and thanked the Ondangwa town council, government and other partners for their commitment and support.

The planning of the project and the construction of show houses will commence in the near future. Urban Dynamics Africa provided town planners for the project, while Lithon Consulting Engineers provide project managers and consultants.
