22.07.2008 Entrepreneurial skills sharpened by course
THE entrepreneurial development training for final year students of Polytechnic’s business faculty kicked off with the first Business Simulation Seminar. Based on a Memorandum of Understanding between Polytechnic of Namibia and the Institute for Management and Leadership Training (IMLT), each final year student has the opportunity to take part in the computer-based seminars where they learn how to plan and manage their own business in a playful context and compete for the best performance.
IMLT, supported by its co-operation partner DED (German Development Service), is conducting the Business Simulation seminars jointly with Polytech staff in order to provide students with practical skills in addition to their regular business studies. “We are very pleased with the development of our co-operation with Polytech and their commitment to the programme.
"It is a great opportunity for IMLT to train Namibia’s future elite in entrepreneurial, management and strategic-thinking skills and contribute to an improved entrepreneurial culture and environment in Namibia from which small enterprises can emerge and prosper, ” says Fanie Oosthuizen, MD of the IMLT.
Lydiah Wambui, Head of Department Human Resource Management at Polytech, points out that concerning the high unemployment rate amongst young graduates, the Business Simulation programme offers the students a realistic insight of self-employment as a viable and alternative career option.
Polytechnic intends to make the Business Simulation programme part of the curriculum for final year students across all faculties from 2010 onwards. For further information, contact Ms Andrea Breyer at 230 555 in Windhoek.
