BANK Windhoek has awarded bursaries to three tertiary students for 2012 last Thursday. The Bank Windhoek Bursary Scheme has been in existence for 12 years and has to date provided bursaries to 32 Namibian students. The 2012 investment in bursaries amounts to N$150 000.

“As a developing country, it is critical for Namibia to develop relevant skills and competencies that will enable us to strengthen our economy and compete in the global arena. This in turn will lead to sustainable growth and development. I believe that an investment of this magnitude will do exactly that,” said Fillimon Ngairo, Head of Learning and Development at Bank Windhoek.

The three recipients of the bursaries are:

1. Ndeupewa Nakamwe (20), Bachelor in Information Technology (Polytechnic of Namibia)

2. Dorinda Oberholzer (21), Bachelor of Arts – Language and Culture (Stellenbosch University)

3. Chanel Wasserfall (20), Bachelor of Arts – Graphic Design (North- Western University of Potchefstroom)

Fillimon concluded by saying: “Bank Windhoek prides itself on being a truly Namibian bank and remains committed to invest in our youth for the economic augment of our country. The bank’s bursary scheme aims to contribute towards complementing the government’s efforts in the provision of funds to cover the high costs of tuition.”

The Bank Windhoek Bursary Scheme caters for Namibian students in their second, third and fourth year of studies at recognized and credible institutions of higher learning. During the term breaks students are attached to various business and support units of the bank as part of experiential learning. This also lays a solid foundation with regard to their future in the corporate environment.
