Bank's performance globally recognised

THE internationally recognised publication, The Banker, once again awarded its prestigious Banker Awards for 2008 in Dorchestor, London and Standard Bank Namibia was one of the worthy recipients. At this year’s announcements, Standard Bank Namibia received the accolade for the bank with the best overall performance in Namibia, one of 140 country awards that have been awarded.

Since its inception in the early 1900s, The Banker has been a trusted source of global financial intelligence and given its exclusive bank listings and banking coverage, it is uniquely placed to bring its worldwide perspective to these awards.

The global editorial team chose the winners based on analysis of the latest results and performance data provided by banks through questionnaires and a review of their strategic developments and overall achievements. “Standard Bank Namibia is proud to remain one of the Group’s most profitable franchises,” commented Standard Bank Namibia’s Managing Director, Mpumzi Pupuma, upon receiving this award.

“Our Namibian operations have been servicing the community for the past 95 years and although the bank has shown substantial growth in the past year, we are definitely going to up our game for the customers’ benefit with exciting service and innovative products in the years to come.”

Apart from the Namibian award, the Standard Bank Group, whose operations extend to 38 countries and with total assets of US$174 billion, was also named Bank of the Year for Botswana, DRC, Lesotho, Malawi, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zimbabwe, reinforcing its position as Africa’s leading bank.

The highest accolade awarded to Standard Bank this year was probably the prestigious African Bank of the Year, which the bank received at The Banker Awards 2008. This awards ceremony has become an annual bonanza for banks and will continue to be a reliable measurement of economic growth and performance around the globe.
